Another successful Cliff May Homes restoration! Welcome to 2596 S Newton Street in Harvey Park...

I love restoring Cliff May Homes. The simplicity and elegance of the detailing and post-and-beam structure of these homes makes it easy to remove years of renovations and updates, and bring them back to their simple core elements. That is what I did with this home in Denver’s Rocky Mountain Cliff May Homes.

When I bought this home, the bottom portions of the window walls were covered in siding, and the interior featured layers of additional finishes that hid the elegant beauty of this Cliff May Homes RM 3212, and I saw opportunities for opening up the kitchen and adding more closet space to the master suite.

One of the favorite models in Harvey Park, the RM 3212 has generous living spaces connected to two bedrooms, and a master suite occupying its own self-contained wing. Window-walls in the master suite and living room open onto a private courtyard; that privacy made possible by replacing the low picket fence that came with the house with a taller privacy fence.

Inside, I took down the original pony wall around the kitchen to open it up to the living room, and replaced all of the cabinets and countertops with new. New appliances by Big Chill provide the perfect 1950s ambiance for this restored house.

All of the important stuff you can’t see was updated, including electrical, plumbing (including tankless hot water), HVAC, and the roof.

I removed the siding from the original window-wall frames, and upgraded them with double-pane glass, bringing the home back to its original design intent.

Both bathrooms were renovated from top-to-bottom, one in vintage pink, and the other in a more contemporary style.

So what did I keep?! The house had a beautiful custom-stained wood screen in the living room that a former owner had built. It starts at one of the structural posts and runs down the hall . . . that, I had to keep, as it is such a fun detail to have in a Cliff May Home.

Watch for an upcoming video series documenting this, my 4th restoration flip in Harvey Park’s Cliff May Homes. It was another fun project, with great results!
